  1. Would you join me in posting pictures of what you wore today to help us inspire each other? It is Monday, so I'm starting a new thread. Elaine, your outfit today was lovely. My favorite so far. I have not thought to wear brown with red before, but it works very well on you. I'll have to try it. SamJoy, I am not supposed to wear black either. Technically it is only for winter seasons, but I think all of us still wear it at times. I think the trick is to add something that is in your seasonal coloring close to your face to minimize the shadows the black makes on most of our faces. I was wearing cream and bone, even though they are not in my color pallette, but I did a draping with white, bone and cream and found that my complexion is much rosier with the white, so I think I'll try to steer clear of bone and cream. I'm not sure about ivory. Is ivory a cool or warm color, does anyone know? Here is a picture of the 3 drapings: (Also an outfit I wore this past week).

  1. I had trouble deciding what to wear this morning. It's going to be in the 80's here (and in the 50's tomorrow LOL), and what I laid out last night just didn't suit. Even after I had this outfit put together I still didn't know if I liked it so much. And then I couldn't get a decent picture taken either! Afterwards I changed out the necklace to something chunkier -- but still above the dress' neckline -- in an antique gold finish. I felt like it needed something stylistically stronger to balance out the boots. Otherwise the outfit was delicate from the knees up and cowboy from the knees down :-\ Dzy, thank you for the suggestion to belt over the vest. I don't think it looks good when I do that but I will take a picture and share it sometime.

  2. !Forgot the pic again!

  3. I like the column of color that your dress makes, with the cardigan on top. Your hair is soooo long! It's very pretty. Sarmour41, I do most of my shopping on ebay or at our local thrift shop (called Unique). I have some saved searches on ebay with key words, like "empire waist", etc. within a price range (0-10 dollars most of the time), within my sizes and every day they send the new listings that fit my saved search criteria. If I like any of them I save them to my ebay, then bid on them the day they are ending. 10% if the time I end up with something that doesn't fit me, but I have a daughter that is smaller than me and she's usually happy to take it off my hands. I have figured out the style and fabric that suits me and that I feel happy in and so I keep an eye out for those on ebay. It's harder to get to the thrift store as I have 5 children and it takes a long time to look through things there.

  4. Helen, Those draping pictures are really interesting, thank you for posting them! I am always fascinated when I see the difference that the right colors make. I have been working a lot of overtime for weeks now and frankly I am getting tired. So no experimenting today, just one of my tried-and-true looks. Well, some of the pieces are new this season, but the overall idea and colors are tried-and-true for me. Elaine in CO

  6. I love your necklace and earrings! These are the pictures of what I wore one day last week. It was one of those days where nothing looked right. I got the dress on ebay but it was too tight for me and the red isn't the red I wear, it was true red and I wear a darker red with blue hues to it. I tried to give it to my daughter, but she doesn't like ruffles.... so maybe when I lose a little weight, I'll take it out again. I ended up wearing the white pants/top and red bolero, but didn't feel happy in that either, I've had a lot of those days lately because I'm avoiding my go-to outfits to stretch myself to make new ones.

  7. HC, Your drapings were interesting!! Ivory has yellow in it, so I would consider it a warm color.

  8. Still exhausted, no experimenting today :-)

  9. I don't have time today, sorry... but here is a picture of 3 of my kids and Larry from Veggie Tales! :) Elaine, your necklaces were different!

  10. HC, Cute kids!! I did the draping with white and cream. My hubby liked the cream, so I wore this today. Hope it looks OK, when I uploaded it looks like the crazy mirror image at the carnival!!

  11. dzylicz, very pretty! I love cream. I got all my cream/ivory clothes together but just can't part with them, so I had the idea to get some Rit dye in one of my colors and dye them. I'll try it and see how they come out. I went to a thrift store last week and bought 4 new skirts. This is my favorite as it has a lot of my colors in it and goes with a lot of my tops.

  12. I'm loving the photo sharing here! You guys are fab! Here's what I wore the other day for appointments. It was cool enough to actually wear a pair of jeans (which I thought was nice since we just talked about jeans last week). It's going to be 85 here again today...but cool weather is on its way by Sunday (mid 60's). Have a great weekend ladies!

  14. I tried to post once and it didn't go thru so will try again. I love black but it is not in my autumn color pallate. I still like to wear ocassionally. I want to thank Cindy(I think) who mentioned croc flats. I have foot trouble and purchased a pair which I wore with this outfit. They feel great. HelenChristine and Leslie, love the recent pictures.

  15. Very pretty, Leslie! Greenwoodcg, nice of you to join us! I think it's so nice how your pants and flats match your hair and bring it all together. I'm the croc ballet flat lover. I'm glad they were helpful to you. I have them in several pairs and are all I wear. I can wear my other shoes for a few hours at a time if I'm going out somewhere and want to look especially nice. I am a summer and shouldn't be wearing black either, but I wore a lot of black lately. I got these at a thrift store this weeK?

  16. Greenwoodcg, I really love your outfit, you let the flats be the main attraction! I know how hard it is to let go of black when you are an autumn. But, I now have no black except for one pair of jeans. Having all chocolate brown is very freeing, because all of our colors go so much better with chocolate than with black! Dzylicz, I like what you did with your scarf so much that I tried it yesterday. Oops, I really didn't like the knots sticking out even further from my bosom, LOL. (I have a larger bust size and I try not to emphasize it.) So I ended up doing something different with my scarf, but thanks for the idea, it was fun to try it. Leslie, your photo also gave me inspiration. I have a scarf that I love the color of, but I don't love the fabric or the shape of it. So, I tied it onto my purse and I really love it there! 17. Greenwoodcg, Love the animal print flats!! I agree with Elaine, try a chocolate brown shirt instead of black. Elaine, glad you tried the scarf idea...sorry about the knots LOL!! Leslie, are your shoes wedges & where did you get them? HC, so glad you started this thread!!

  18. Thanks ladies for the suggestion of chocolate brown. I actually do have some pieces in that color, and as I purge and replace basics, I will certainly look for it. I am currently using olive green, plum/purple, and magenta as accent colors so that would work well. It is hard to let go of "basic" black as that is what I have been taught all my life. I am early 60's and recently retired, so I am enjoying following your posts and getting new ideas.
