When buying a little black dress is there is there a certain style I should be looking for (so that it can be dressed up)?

The LBD mostly needs to be a plain, unadorned, simple style. A sheath dress, empire waist, or A-line, whatever flatters your shape, but is a dark, solid color. It can be sleeveless or long sleeved, or any length in-between. It doesn't have to be black, either. Think brown, navy, charcoal gray, etc. It just needs to be a blank canvas that will allow the accessories to dress it up.
