Mother of the Groom - Body Type E

Hello all! I need some help please. My son is getting married next summer. I've poked around on a few websites looking for a MOG dress for the wedding (I also need something for the rehearsal dinner). I wear a size 20w typically and want to conceal my upper arms (I'm thinking a flutter sleeve for both). I'd like a somewhat long gown for the wedding and probably knee length for the rehearsal dinner. I have a disability and need to wear a brace on my ankle and my knee, and I'd like to hide them the day of the wedding. I looked at the websites for some bridal shops near me (Long Island, NY), Nordstrom, Macy's, Saks, and even Dillards (we don't have one - the closest one to me is in Virginia!). I've seen one or two dresses that are "okay", but nothing that wows me. Surely there are other places I can look, right? Any place you can recommend? I don't want to look like I'm wearing a sack and once I select plus sized options, the dress choices are hideous. It goes from 300+ options down to 10. :( I'm looking for a dress preferably following the rules I learned through this site - v-neck, flutter sleeves, something that will draw the eye away from my stomach and hips and in a silver, gray, graphite, purple, champagne, rose gold, or a blue that will coordinate with a dusky blue that the bridesmaids are wearing. Then I'll also need to deal with the shoe situation. I mentioned the brace (google a richie brace for pics - that's what's on my ankle). The knee brace is the standard giant wrap for arthritis. Due to the ankle, I cannot wear heels, and will most likely need to wear a sneaker for most of the day (I cannot walk without the brace, but I can stand still in a "regular" shoe for 15-20 minutes without further tearing the tendon). So, I'm looking for a WW width fancy sparkly type of sneaker - I need extra width to accommodate the brace -something like the Kate Spade x Keds sneakers (I know I've seen them in standard width, but finding them in wide seems to be a challenge). I suppose I could find someone crafty to create some bespoke ones if need be - has anyone done this? I'd like to put on flat, stable, perhaps even sparkly sandals for the family pictures. I would need those in a 9.5W - I can't seem to find anything that doesn't look cheap in a wide width. I saw Naturalizer (sp?) Halo which is a good idea of a shoe I could stand in briefly, and comes in a wide width but it only comes in a crocodile print in almond. I don't think that's going to work. So these are my questions and limitations. Can anyone offer some help? There are some links below to dresses that are "okay". :) And of course, with my disability, schlepping around NYC going from shop to shop won't work - I cannot walk much more than 5-10 minutes. Thank you for reading this far and for any help you can offer. Hello sgries. Sorry you haven't had any replies for your outfit dilemma re your son's wedding next summer. Perhaps if you were to submit 2 separate queries - 1 about the dress(es) and 1 about the footwear - it would be simpler. I think your ideas for the dress(es) are good. Could you wear a dressy trouser/pants outfit for the wedding rehearsal? As the wedding is next summer you have time to send for some outfits from online websites, and try them on at home. As regard the shoes, the most important thing is for them to be comfortable. Reviews of the ones you mentioned in your post say that they squeeze the toes. Might be better to search on sites that specialise in wide-fitting shoes?

I don’t have opportunity to dress up a lot, but I have a friend (plus-sized, like I am) who is a professional singer, and who regularly needs to buy dresses for concerts or recitals. She swears by Kiyonna.com. The brick-and-mortar store is in California, but they have a very quick and responsive internet-order business. The dresses aren’t cheap, but they have great sales often. The dresses range from pretty everyday-wear to formal. Most are made of high-quality knit, so between that and the well-planned designs they are flattering and forgiving. A bonus about the website: many (most?) of the garments have photos uploaded showing real women wearing them, including the woman’s height and size. Customer service is great to work with. I think there’s a good chance you might find dresses there that suit your needs, and they’ll be comfortable to wear! If you prefer more overtly fashionable styles, try Eloquii.com. They also have some basics: I nearly live in their short-sleeved wrap maxi dresses, and I get compliments every time. Good quality.

What a beautiful website Auntlollie3! The dresses on the Kiyonna website are so classy. I just wish they carried smaller sizes too. I sure hope sgries22 sees your suggestion and checks out that site.

I was thinking you could get some plain fabric shoes, like Skechers, and have them Beadazzled.
