Hi, I’m wondering what the 'trends' are for older women with lipstick. I want to do my own thing, but don’t know if gloss is in or out, matte, etc. any suggestions? Thanks

Not sure there is a "trend". People just wear whatever they think suits them. Matte is supposed to be fashonable but I'm not sure that it looks good on everyone.

I personally don't like matte. I think it does age most people. I do like a gloss that's not a wet look one. A lipstick shade that's not too dark and has a bit of shine to it is my preference or a light gloss. These days I look for colours in my summer range so I avoid the coppers, orangey peaches and orange reds.

Great question. Right now in makeup matte lipstick is trending. I don't think it's a good way to go if you are older. I'm agreeing with LisaFromOz...a lipstick that has a slight sheen to it and in a color that is not too bright or dark. Actually if you read this week's email it's about makeup and the aging (mature) woman. ,br.Here is what it says about lip color: 5. Lip color. Lighten up! Seriously, wear lighter lip color. Avoid dark lips because it will bring attention to lip wrinkles, yellowing teeth, etc. Lighter lips (choose a lip color close to the color of your gums) will take years off your face.

This photo gives a good visual. On the left makeup is more natural and looks so much better than bright/harsh colors!

I don't have a clue what is trending for lipstick, but select the shade of lipstick to go with my "summer" palate clothes. In summer I wear more of a rosy-pink, in autumn a shade towards a rosy brown, and winter I use a bit more rosy-red, all in a light gloss(as has already been suggested). That's it, 3 lipsticks for the year.

Friend said "And you could wear some lipstick", when giving opinion on my new hairstyle. I said "I'm already wearing lipstick." Ummmm...

Oops, sorry for the double pist

Other people have said "what a nice colour - where can I get it?" so it's probably a matter of opinion. Later, I bought a red lipstick, (knowing from experience that red lipstick doesn't suit me). Then tried just dabbing it on with my finger, which looks "less crazy". Finally found that putting it on and then blotting most of it off, looks better. Could mix a little red with the other one.

Of course, her comment could be construed as that my lipstick colour looked so natural as to be undetectable. Maybe a good thing?
