Help! 60, Petite, C dressing

  1. I'm 5' 1" tall and a type C, who wears a 14-16. So, I'm short and heavy on the bottom. I understand that monochromatic dressing makes me look slimmer, but I'm very confused about how that would look. For instance, do I just keep a closet full of black tops, black pants, and black jackets? I'm a definite Winter and I really like primary colors. I get compliments when I wear red, purple, bright yellow, and green. Can I wear a bright color top with pants and a matching jacket? Can I wear a white blouse or white jacket? What about a bolero to cover my bat-wing arms? Should I toss the colored bolero sweaters? I'm in the middle of a closet purge, but now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to keep. I am really hoping you ladies can give me advice and ideas. Thanks, Liz.

  1. Hi Liz! I'm not petite, but I am a C, so maybe I can help a bit... Don't throw out all the colourful clothes you love! Wear them while following the other style tips on how to balance your proportions. With monochromatic dressing, try wearing pants and a shirt in the same bright colour, then adding a neutral jacket/sweater (worn open so you still get that monochromatic line), and neutral shoes/accessories. Or wear an all-black or all-white skirt and top, with a bright bolero over top. If you're doing a closet purge, I'd focus more on the clothes that don't fit well, don't flatter your proportions (are too baggy / stop at the wrong spot on your body / etc.), or are just plain worn out. Good luck, and do come back to let us know how it's going!
