10-26-20 THIS WEEK: Wearing Fall Hosiery

October 26, 2020, 2:58 pm by MSP

Dear SYSters,

With every new season MissusSmartyPants gets an inbox full of style dilemmas. With so many MSP SYSters asking for help; it's hard to answer each one individually. Questions range from: how to wear tights with fall skirts and dresses, how to choose the right color of tights based on shoes, plus questions about the right length for jackets and coats... plus so much more!

Of course, MSP is always happy to help a SYSter out. After a brief discussion, we at MissusSmartyPants decided the smartest thing would be to answer ALL of these questions at one time. Yes, brilliant.

What's the #1 style question for fall? How to wear fall hosiery.

Opaque tights are perfect for fall. Just like puffer jackets, tights are an awesome wardrobe staple when the temperatures plunge. It’s easy to get in the habit of wearing your thick black tights under all of your fall dresses and skirts because they work so well, but don’t forget there are countless other ways you can wear tights. This week's article will give you outfit suggestions showing how to wear fall hosiery stylishly (correctly).

Your hosiery questions are answered in this week's article.

Find out how to choose the right hosiery for your fall shoes or boots....and more!

This handy hosiery guide will be posted in all 5 Personal Profiles this Thursday!!!

Oh so many new ways to wear fall hosiery. That's what this Thursday's article is all about! Fall hosiery and how to wear it.

Email question, answered:

Dear Missus Smarty Pants,

I have a question about chambray shirts. I noticed that they are blue (in essence, jeans colored) and since I am a Spring Season, should I wear that color? Do they come in other colors as well? I have not bought one yet because I haven't cared for that color on me. I would love some tips on that.

Thanks, Janet

Dear Janet,

A chambray shirt is a classic for every woman's wardrobe. However, the last couple of seasons, it has become a "trendy" wardrobe must-have because of its versatility and unique layering ability. You can wear a chambray shirt with, well, just about anything. Wear it with any jeans or shorts, under a bright red v-neck sweater, with a long pencil skirt (tucked in), over a dress (belted) or you can open it up like a cardigan and wear it as a top layer with a tee underneath. Really, the ways to wear a chambray shirt are endless!

In regards to the color of shirt, a chambray (a work-inspired button-down shirt) comes in many tones of blue. From very light (washed out) blue to cornflower blue to dark, dark denim...and every blue shade in-between. The Spring color palette can wear blue! The key is to find the shade that looks good on you! You may find you need a deeper blue than what is most common for the chambray shirts. Keep looking.

Here are a few outfit examples of how you can wear a chambray shirt...

MSP's Weekly Style Mission

This week’s Style Mission: Purchase new opaque/textured tights.

Choose from the most wearable colors for your fall/winter wardrobe: black, dark gray and dark brown.

Tights remain the stylish option for keeping your legs warm (and comfortably covered) in the cold winter months. You can wear them with cropped trousers and pumps, with longer midi-skirts and dresses, and any style of boot as well.

Do you have a few pairs of tights from last year? Take a look at them right now. Do they fit you correctly, and are they snag-free? You may want to add another pair like a textured tight in this fall's “new” gray color! Be sure you have several pairs in rotation so one pair is always ready to go.

Love, Leslie MSP

P.S. I’m often asked which brand of tight I prefer. My favorite is the “Hue” brand. They are good quality and end up being well worth their cost by the end of the season.

Here's how I put together outfits with sweaters or cardigans...

Dear MSP,

I've always folded my sweaters/cardigans because I've been told it keeps their shape better, although they wrinkle. However, when I'm trying to put together new outfit combinations it's difficult to see how the sweaters will look in an outfit when they're not on a hanger. Are there any ways around this? Any special hangers or something to make this easier? How do you put together outfits with sweaters & cardigans?

Thank you! Gale

MSP HERE: Dear Gale,

Here's how I hang my sweaters, cardigans and sweater dresses so they don't stretch out; I hang them with FELT covered hangers as shown here in my closet. These hangers keep your clothes from sliding and falling onto the closet floor and keep your knits from stretching out when you FOLD them on the hanger.

Hope that helps! Love, Leslie MSP
