MSP HERE: Dear MSP SYSters,

It's always so rewarding when you get an email from someone you haven't heard from, or seen, in a very long time. What's even better; is when they tell you how wonderful they've been doing.

With permission I'm sharing with you a makeover story of a lovely woman named Janet. I couldn't be more blessed to have spent time helping her dress her fabulous self. She's a gift to everyone she meets; and I'm sure you'll agree her smile is contagious!

You are a lovely gift. Just like a gift, when something fabulous is on the inside-the exterior is wrapped in a pleasing color, and tied with a beautiful bow. We are all gifts to others, and to ourselves. Wrap yourself in something that makes you look and feel your best. Sometimes you need a little help figuring it out. But when you do, your attitude and how others see you will be more positive. Basically, you are a gift-so dress accordingly.

Love, Leslie MSP

FROM JANET:

Hi Leslie,

Greetings! I enjoyed a wonderful 1-1 mentoring/shopping experience with you in the summer of 2007. I was stuck in a rut and convinced that being a larger size was a barrier to looking great.

I remember very warmly our time together and your encouragement and grace to me in that process. And I still have some of those pieces, too. :-)

Since our get together, I have lost more than 70 lbs.  My wardrobe is still catching up, but I recently navigated an exciting milestone and bought a dress (E flattering, even!) for the first time in many years - maybe decades!

I wanted to share this with you and say thank you for believing in me all along! :-)

THANK YOU!  Hugs

Janet

FROM JANET:

Dear SYSters,

Like many of you, I met Leslie, MissusSmartyPants, through our mutual friend FlyLady.   At that time, I was defaulting to a monochromatic work uniform of ill-fitting navy pants and blouses.  I don't have a picture to share, but it was as unfortunate as it sounds.  I was enthralled with Leslie's Personal Profiles and newsletters, but struggled to apply the information for my petite-sized E frame.  Since I live within a couple hours drive from Leslie, I contacted her in June 2007 for an in-person appointment.

For me, shopping had meant sticking my head in a store doorway and leaving with an "oh, they don't have anything that would work for me."  I was shocked that Leslie and I actually spent the better part of a day shopping at a mall.   We successfully shopped stores and clothing styles that I'd completely written off - and they worked great!  That experience facilitated a shift in my thinking, shopping and dressing that's reflected in the first four pictures below.  That denim tencel jacket from Coldwater Creek and the black/white floral shell from Nordstrom became favorites that I still have today!

But there still has been one garment that I deemed out of my reach, unavailable to my shape and size - A DRESS!  But since I wanted to wear one to a friend's recent wedding, I embarked on a dress search for the first time in decades.  I started by going to a mall with a trusted friend who has my best interests at heart and tried on every suggestion, no matter my first impression.  I took pictures to help me see what the dresses really looked like.  From there, I expanded my search to more stores and additional style choices.

And voila' - I found a dress!   Just like Leslie's Personal Profiles recommend for an E body type, the dress is a skimming tunic style with a v-neckline and three-quarter length sleeves.   I love it that through the details of my Personal Profile I can shop with Leslie any time!

Thanks you so very much, Leslie!  And SYSters, best to you all!  :-)

~Janet

PS.  I, like many of you, have struggled with weight for a long time.  When heartburn pain got my complete attention, I finally gave up drinking diet soda and eating at night.  I saw immediate improvements that gave me confidence and courage to make even more changes.   Content from Dr. Mark Hyman, contributor to The Daniel Plan,  provided guidance about foods to eat and others to avoid.  I've found that eating whole, real, unprocessed foods has made a world of difference compared to other "diets" I've tried.   I'm consistent, but not perfect, on the journey.  I hesitated to address something so personal and sensitive for many of us, but understood that the pictures would raise questions. My heart and prayers go out to all of my fellow SYSters who are navigating their own health journey!
