MSP's Weekly Style Mission

This week's Style Mission is more of a challenge than a "just do it" type of task.

This week's Style Mission is to dress up (really dress nicely) one day this week. It's even better if you have absolutely no place to go. Why? Because when you go out and run errands around town you are going to feel differently about yourself. Others are going to react to your "dressed up" style too. Play along with me and see what happens. It's kind of a social experiment, if you will...so let's do it together!

Set the t-shirts aside and "dress up" one day this week!

It's amazing what happens when you dress up...

Be sure to report back and share what happens when you are more dressed up than usual. Did people hold the door open for you? Did they smile more, did they notice something was different about you? How about you...did you smile more too?

Please email me at missusmsp@windstream.net and share what happened while you were more dressed up. Did you get more attention? Did someone say something nice to you? (Please put "Dressed Up" in the subject line).

Love, Leslie MSP

What SYSters Are Saying

Hi Leslie,

I read about a past style mission this morning while eating my breakfast. A few minutes later while I was getting dressed for work I remembered my "pearls."  My pearls are a reproduction of Jackie O's classic double strand and they languish in their box on my dresser most of the time.

Today my outfit for work is a soft grey pencil skirt and a blue and grey floral print top with a soft grey wrap (currently draped over the back of my chair, but ready to cover my shoulders if I feel cool) and cream and grey flats.

I pulled out my Jackie O pearls, tried them on, and instead of deciding they were too dressy for work I smiled and left them around my neck, I added simple stud earrings that would not compete or be too matchy matchy with the necklace, grabbed my purse and headed out the door.

My first compliment came from another commuter on the morning train - something that has never happened to me before, followed by several co-worker compliments once I arrived at work.

After work I will be meeting DH for a supper date. I'll change into dressier sandals and freshen my makeup and be ready to go.
Wearing my "new accessory" today has kicked this outfit up a notch and I feel fabulous.

Dear MSP,

Thank you so much for your service. It has changed the way I dress.  I had a couple of “aha” moments over the past few weeks.

One "aha": I purged my closet last week, and I have a top shelf (above wear I hang everything) that had my sweaters, long sleeve and short sleeve shirts stacked.  It became a mess and I did not even remember what was up there.  Directly across from that I have 5-6 very long wooden shelves that DH put up for me years ago.  I made the simple switch to make two of those shelves (more at eye/below eye level) the home of the clothes that were up high.  All of my purses and day bags that were on the wooden shelves, i moved to the upper shelf.  Since I don't access these things everyday.  Wa la!  I could SEE everything so much better. I felt like I had a new wardrobe.  I began wearing things I forgot I had.

My “aha” number two: Was in JC Penny with a $50 gift card..hmmm...do I buy 5 new shirts at clearance like I would have done in the past. Nope, I found two great, cotton cardigans from American Living. One cream, one Black.  I only came home with two items, but have already worn them many times. I know these pieces will be part of my basics and last forever. You’ve changed the way I think about dressing! Every day is so much more fun!

Love, Andrea

Dear Leslie,

I was always interested in clothes. Then I had kids, and started wearing stretchpants, and got big. I always said I lost my eye for fashion.

Now that I've lost weight, I decided to join MissusSmartyPants. I've only been a member for a month, and I've gotten so many compliments! Today, I directed our children's program at church in a gray skirt, with black panels, a cream blouse, a light black wrap sweater, and gray pumps. My mom gave me the best compliment: she told me I looked like her mother when she was in her forties, (my grandmother was always known for dressing well, and presenting herself like a lady.)

You have given me a great gift! Thanks from a grateful fan!
