11 Ways to Improve Your Own Body Image

Your body image is influenced more by self-esteem than your actual body shape.

Here are 11 ways you can improve your self-image:

1. Stop beating yourself up. Don’t go through a laundry list of your body’s imperfections. Instead, get your mind set and accept your body—it’s the only one you have.

2. Get real. The images you see on TV and in magazines are created with “smoke and mirrors”--and lots of air-brushing. Very few “real” people have bodies like what you see in a Victoria’s Secret catalog.

3. Listen to yourself. If you were to verbalize the negative things you say to yourself out loud and to other people—you’d have NO friends!

4. Change yourself by changing your attitude. What’s in your head has more to do with how you feel about yourself than your hips.

5. Use it or lose it. Start a daily routine of loving movement. People who exercise their bodies DO have a higher self-esteem.

6. Wear clothes that fit. Wearing clothes too tight on your body is a constant reminder of the 10 lbs. you need to lose. Same thing with baggy clothes they make you look bigger and feel sloppy. Neither builds confidence.

7. Read the Serenity Prayer when things get tough. Some things you just can’t change. Find comfort and strength here.

8. Laugh a little. Enjoy yourself more. Don’t take yourself so seriously—others don’t!

9. Lower the bar. Set goals, but ones you CAN accomplish and feel good about.

10. Reflect. Look at your reflection and see not trouble zones, but the good parts you love! Let’s play up our good parts.

11. Read your weekly shopping guides to inspire your unique style. When you dress your best...you will begin to FLY (Finally Love Yourself)!
