9-24-18 THIS WEEK: Streamline Your Wardrobe

September 24, 2018, 2:21 pm by MSP

A full closet is like a security blanket. When it's full, it makes you feel safe-knowing you always have something to wear. However, the reality is; it's a false sense of security. The truth: we only wear a small percentage of our clothes. Often, it's the same things over and over.

With so much in our closets, we always have something to wear, right? Then, why is it, we often exclaim, "I have NOTHING to wear!" Your answer does NOT mean: you need to go shopping again. Instead, you need a streamlined wardrobe. Less clutter = more peace and plenty to wear.

Less clutter, more peace.

This week: streamline your wardrobe with MSP!

A contradictory closet. Your closet is lying! Think about what you wear day-to-day. It's probably the same few pairs of jeans, slacks or yoga pants with a few different tops, and that's about it. Your choices are limited to the same few things that you feel comfortable in, and quite possibly, your choices even border on boring. Does this sound familiar? The rest of the clothes in your closet are ones that you don't love anymore for one reason or another (like the color is bad, it's itchy, it does not fit you, it's stained, or outdated, etc.). WHY are these clothes still in there? Why?

Take a bold step this week. Pare down your wardrobe. Seriously... Pare-Down-Your-Wardrobe.

Let's streamline our wardrobes into real functioning wardrobes. With a smaller wardrobe you'll have everything you need, and not much else; you will find you actually have more style choices. It's amazing how less clothes equal more to wear.  As scary (or even as absurd as it sounds) at first to remove half (or more) of your clothes from your closet-it's the answer to getting dressed with ease in the morning.

What to keep, what to lose? What holds women back from getting serious about closet decluttering is not knowing where to startWhat do you keep? How do you know, after all you might need it someday?  This week the checklist of what to toss and what to keep. I'll walk you through a closet clean out step by step...piece by piece. You can do this. You'll be glad you did. It is life-changing. Yeah, I've used the term "life-changing" before because you know what...it is!

One step at a time. This week, take the path to better style by building a small functional wardrobe using your current wardrobe. You'll get so excited about your new sense of organization that your style will instantly feel fresh and new again.

Release the clutter...This week's list and step-by-step plan to a streamlined wardrobe is the answer to your style prayers!

MSP's Weekly Style Mission

Your Style Mission for this week is to take an inventory of your shoes.

Do you have the right shoes to meet all your wardrobe needs? Think about it. If shoes can make or break the outfit… are yours worn-out and scuffed up? Do you lack a good pair of dress shoes? What's missin?

This week, take an inventory of your basic shoes. (We're not talking fancy “dinner” shoes-just the basics)

With the change of seasons...it's a perfect time to assess your current shoes and what you need for the fall and winter. Inventory your BASIC shoes that you wear everyday. Do you have enough of them in rotation so you aren’t wearing the same shoes day in and day out?

Your everyday shoes should be simple, comfortable and functional. You should have flats, dress heels, boots, sandals and athletic lace-ups in basic colors like black, brown and tan.

Comfort and fab style...you'll get BOTH with Nurture Brand shoes.

This shoe brand has become my personal favorite!

Once you obtain an essential shoe wardrobe-add in a few fun shoe styles! Consider shoes with animal prints, embellished flats and bright colored pointy-toe wedges, etc. A stylish shoe can even become your focal point to a basic or classic outfit.

Your shoes are talking! Guess what? You can tell a lot about a woman’s personality and social class from her shoe choice. Some people notice shoes right away. What do your shoes say about you? Fun, practical, ready to take style risks?

What SYSters are Saying

Dear MissusSmartyPants,

Just thought I'd post a thought or two on the “I'm not the size I wanna be” mindset.  I've been working for over a year on my weight. I've gone from a 38 inch waist to a 34. So far I've lost over 45 lbs in the last year. It has been a moment by moment journey.  One mouthful at a time..of course the fact that I've painfully discovered that if I eat certain things I'm in tremendous pain has been an incredible motivator.  So I've learned to make healthier choices.

I recently joined Missus Smarty Pants, like FlyLady has said so many times "you're not behind just get started right where you are." I've been amazed at the change in having a bit of direction has done for how I see myself physically.

Last night my daughter and I went shopping. I've avoided "shopping" unless I absolutely had to.  I found two pairs of the cutest leather shoes for $4.99 each. I've been looking to add wardrobe pieces that would compliment my bodystyle. Having a specific type of clothing in mind and already knowing my color palette has changed the way I shop.

Dressing now is so much faster and less stressful. A year ago I didn't even feel like I had a style, let alone find something to compliment it.

So for anyone debating whether or not its worth it to sign up for the Missus Smarty Pants emails… my answer is yes... I'm worth it and so are you.

Thank you, Joy
