11-21-16 THIS WEEK: Wear It Right

November 21, 2016, 1:25 pm by MSP

It’s funny how we can go through life day-to-day, then suddenly, we need to dress for a special occasion, or we just want to look really nice and we completely fall apart. Perhaps in the past you've declined an invitation because you didn’t know what to wear. (Does this sound familiar?) Let's not let that happen again! With more style confidence and the LIST of "How to Wear It Right"…you can dress for any occasion and with conviction!

Start with babysteps. If style is new to you, you've got to give yourself time (babysteps) to learn how to apply the style principles being taught. There are so many things to learn about dressing well, like dressing to balance your proportions, dressing for your body's particular shape, how to play-up assets and minimize other areas, wearing the right colors, and starting wardrobe basics...etc. All of these things are addressed each week when you have a MSP Personal Profile.

This week's article "Wear It Right"...

Teaches you how to wear each garment right and avoid pitfalls that take you into fashion faux-pas territory!

Here's a few of the questions that will be answered in this week's article (posting this Thursday in all 5 Personal Profiles):

What's the best skirt length and what style of top is best when wearing a skirt?

To tuck in, or leave your top untucked? What if you have a large tummy?

What is the most flattering jean style? Are empire waists still in style? Can I wear gold jewelry if I'm a Winter?

Can shirt hemlines fall below your jacket? If you've got large feet, what style of shoe and pants are best?

Riding boots, do they have to be brown or can I wear black ones when I'm wearing brown?

MSP's Weekly Style Mission

THIS WEEK'S MISSION: DO NOT WEAR BLACK. It's fall, so wear layers using lots of  COLOR!

That's right. Your challenge is to NOT wear ANYTHING that's black in color (handbags and accessories are not included). This week, do not grab one item (nope...not even one) from your closet that is BLACK!!!

Can you do this challenge (with me) for a whole week? I'm right there, doing it with you. I'll report back next week on my progress (and please feel free to share your 'no black' style stories by emailing me at: missusmsp@windstream.net.

Here is my dark navy (no black) outfit I recently wore...

What SYSters Are Saying

Dear Miss Smarty Pants,

After reading your latest e-mail, I decided I needed to write and share my story and to thank you for your wonderful website.

I am a 48 year old woman who divorced last fall after 29 years of marriage.  As my marriage was disintegrating before my eyes, so was my appearance.  I realized I was looking old and frumpy.  At 5'1", it doesn't take much for me to look frumpy!

My hobby is fashion sewing, and I learned about your wonderful website from a sewing message board that was discussing wardrobe building (happens to be a big topic among sewers these days).  I signed up and loved it!

As my new life began, I began to get rid of excess baggage including my frumpy clothes.  I use your shopping guides each week to think about what I want to sew.  I also buy accessories and some garments to go along with what I make.  I never thought about how important shoes were until I began reading your e-mails.  Shoe shopping is actually fun now.

Since this style journey began, I have received nothing but compliments on how I look. Everyone says I look much younger and happier.

Thanks for your style tips.  It certainly goes beyond the outside appearance.  I feel much better about myself.  When you look good, you feel good, no matter what your body size.

Your syster, Carolyn
