MSP's Weekly Style Mission

This week: Mix it up!

Nothing to buy here...you are only going to use your creativity. Set aside enough time so you can "play around" with and mix-up your clothing & accessories to create new outfits you've never tried before.

You've got plenty of clothes inside your closet; you just need a little "push" in the you-know-what to get you using what you've got! HERE'S YOUR PUSH!!! Bam. Consider yourself pushed :)

Hurry! Grab something you haven't worn for a very long time. Now, try it on in front of your full-length mirror.

Put on your creative thinking cap...What could you possibly wear this with?

Mix it up for "new" looks. For example, try on a jacket you always wear with the same pants, but instead, try the jacket with a skirt instead. Now, add a long-strand necklace that never gets worn—voila', you've now got a "new" outfit!

(Try all new creations on in front of a full-length mirror to see if they work prior to running out the door). I recommend doing this exercise the night before when you set out your clothes for the next day.

With a little clever forethought, you’ll have new outfits using the clothes you already have. It just takes a little time and creativity (Psst! Jazzy music & a glass of wine never hurt either, LOL!) Happy wardrobe creating!

Love ya, Leslie MSP

What SYSters Are Saying

Question about shoe article...

In your shoe article you said that wearing flats with skirts below the knee is dowdy, but in the spring preview you said that the midi could be worn with flats. I am confused. Is it the style or fullness that determines whether flats can be worn with a skirt below the knee? Debra

MSP HERE: Dear Debra,

Thank you for your question. This is a great question worthy of an explanation....so here it is!

Wearing flats with midi skirts can look dowdy. This is especially the case of the skirt is full-cut and the length is close mid-calf vs. a skirt at-the-knee.

The best way to wear flats with midi skirt is to choose a slim or A-line styled skirt. Also, avoid longer midi lengths that are mid-calf. Instead, opt for a length just below the knee.

Dear MSP,

About 6 months ago I purchased my personal profile (I'm a very curvy B) and learned a lot but didn't put any of it into practice until about 3 months ago.

Finally, after years of HATING my body and crying whenever I tried clothes on in a dressing room, I am able to look in the mirror and stand tall! I accept the flaws with the idea that I can improve by going to the gym and, more importantly, I can finally accept that I have assets as well.

This is HUGE for me because I am finally able to take pride in my appearance instead of just throwing on whatever was available. I’ve now lost almost 20 lbs because I’m more aware of my body and want to take care for it. Wow your style help was the turning point for me!

Thank you so much for encouraging me to love my shape. Deb

Hi Leslie,

I just wanted to send a quick note of thanks.

My resolution for this year was to learn how to dress better. I wasn't exactly sure how I would do it, but then I found your website.  It has been a godsend.  I have felt inadequate for a long time when it comes to dressing myself.  So many times I felt I looked good and then I looked at pictures of myself later and realized that the style or the color just DIDN'T look good on me.   I often felt uncomfortable around other women who knew how to dress themselves.

Over the past 5 months I have lost 2 dress sizes and it is exciting to be able to choose clothes I know will look good on my Type B body.  I have received so many complements about how great I look.  I know it is not only the weight loss; it is that I am now wearing the right clothes for my body type.   I was excited at this week's Personal Profile.  I purchased (and seriously considered) several of the items in the profile a few weeks ago.  I am starting to be able to choose those styles that will look good on me without a link from you!  LOL

So thank you!  I have so much more confidence now.

Jennifer
