Dear MSP,
I am a "C" body type and have NEVER felt good about myself - always comparing my body shape to that of my small and petite sisters. But after receiving just ONE of your weekly messages and shopping suggestions, I was finally able to catch on to the advice you were giving about what styles of clothes would look best on my shape.
Using your help, I went into my closet and put together ONE outfit with clothes I already had. I NEVER would have put these items together before reading your web site and the personal profile, but I did it and wore it the very next day. I received probably the very best compliment of my life, from my 13 year old son - who told me "Mom, you look kind of elegant today!" I was THRILLED! And all I was wearing was a nice pair of jeans, a button shirt that had princess seams and small shoulder pads in it, and some flat loafer type shoes - instead of the typical jeans, t-shirt, and tennis shoes. What a difference! And I still felt like I was wearing casual clothes that I could get down on the floor and play with my two year old in!
Thank you SO MUCH - for helping me to finally love and appreciate my body shape, and showing me how to accent my positive points!
Love, Susan
Dear MSP,
After debating for a while, I finally subscribed for a whole year, and I am so glad I did!
I've done a closet purge and started wearing the few flattering clothes left, but first advice I took was to get a decent haircut. At the same time I got my brows shaped, and then I pulled out my long-abandoned make-up and contacts (my glasses are dated and uncomfortable).
Each morning I spend a few extra minutes on myself and the results have been amazing! One day after dropping the kids off at school one morning, one mother (who's always seemed glamorous to me) asked if I had had 'work done'!
I've had a face lift and a self-esteem booster for the price of a MSP subscription and a trip to my hairdresser. And no bandages!
Thank you so much MissusSmartyPants! Barbara
Dear Leslie,
I subscribed because my wardrobe needed serious help, I was down to about 2 work outfits and I hate shopping for clothes, I hate buying clothes and I have absolutely NO fashion sense so I figured why not?
I love it! What I have gotten from you in just the first 2 weeks has made the money I spent worth it!
I have cleaned and purged about half of my closet and found 4 work outfits that I didn't realize I had. I had to buy 2 pair of shoes to make them work but took your suggestions to the shoe store and found 2 pair I love for only 14.00! (Puppies had destroyed all but one work pair of shoes)
I tried everything on I had and looked in the mirror and if it didn't make me look or feel fabulous I tossed it! The suggestions for my body type started making more sense as I did this! I still have some clothes to go, but I will get thru my closet with baby-steps!
I used to try on clothes and think "I am so fat!" Now I try them on and I think "Wow, that makes me LOOK fat!" or "wow, that really makes me look thinner!" It is no longer MY fault the clothes don't look good it's THEIR fault and it has made shopping a MUCH happier experience!!!!
That to me is priceless! Love, Tamara
Hi Leslie,
I just had to write to tell you something that happened last weekend! I went shopping for a new black skirt. Keep in mind I have rarely gone shopping in the past five years beyond weekly trips to Wal-mart and the grocery store. I reviewed your guidelines for my type (I'm a C) before leaving the house.
I went to our local Chicos to check their sale rack since there was a big sale sign outside the store. I picked out a knee length gored skirt and a black and white striped 3/4 length sleeve v-neck shirt. I also picked out some colorful beads since you were talking about accessories last week.
When I took my selections to the counter to pay, the salesperson asked me if anyone was helping me. I told her no. She got a surprised look on her face and said she really liked what I'd put together and was impressed I'd done it by myself. She even offered me a job in the store! I thanked her for the compliment and the offer.
This was a real confidence booster! It was so nice being able to pick out an outfit and know it was going to look good for my shape. Then to get an unsolicited compliment was just icing on the cake! Thank you so much for helping folks like me out. I really appreciate it!!
Warmly,
Lisa
Wow MSP! I can't believe the difference in the clothes in my own closet since receiving my personal profile newsletters. It has been so amazing to go to my own closet and find "new" clothes.
Since I've received your weekly advice, I've altered the way that I put outfits together and what a difference it has made! Twice this week I was asked if I had lost weight and that I looked nice! I was wearing the same clothes that have been hanging in my closet but instead of trying to hide behind them I gave Missus Smarty Pants a try and followed her advice (I'm a "B".)
I even feel like I've lost 10 pounds just my making some simple changes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'm looking forward to many more newsletters, tips and guides. Angela
Hello MissusSmartyPants-
I received notes from FlyLady several times regarding your site, but I always resisted. Even though I recently started a job in educational testing, I was afraid your clothing recommendations would be only for older, overweight office workers. I wanted examples of fun, flattering clothes that were suitable for lots of casual occasions, yet look good at work. Also, I was afraid that at 5'5", 125 lbs, I wasn't a typical "C" looking person, but believe me, that's what I am.
Imagine my delight when the first profile has my favorite brand of clothing with SPECIFIC types of clothes that are neither too formal or too old or too boring!!
Hooray - now when I order clothing, I will do so with confidence. All the recommendations are right on the money. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get shopping!

Hi Leslie,
Thanks for the email and the enclosures. I am going well with my styling, I think. I have closet purged, colour coded and indulged in all the same coat hangers (pack of 12 for $3.00!) which has made a huge HUGE difference to the look of my wardrobe. I have ordered a 100% wool charcoal suit and two black skirts from a UK website, and am awaiting their arrival, to go straight to the dress makers and have any alterations done.
I especially liked the tip under one of the enclosures, where you had four pieces, top, skirt, bag, bracelet - that you suggested would all make an outfit, sometimes pulling things together like that is the hardest bit.
I am looking at the journey towards redressing me in style (as I was once a stylish gal) to being a marathon, rather than a sprint and enjoying the ride. I have not spent any money on myself for the past five years, and am worried that once I start, I may not stop!
Thanks for being part of my journey.
Regards, Sharon
